EPZ P50 - Allure
EPZ P50- "Allure"
‼️DISCLAIMER:
I already made a video review of the P50. I liked this set a lot so I decided to buy one. This was purchased at a discounted price from EPZ. All thoughts are my own, and the company did not influence me in the making of this review.
Video Review:
⚜️WHAT’S IN THE BOX?
In the box, you get a circular case, a 6N single crystal silver plated copper with interchangeable termination of 3.5 and 4.4mm balanced. You also get two sets of eartips. It is a pretty standard for its price and I think the interchangeable cable termination is a good addition
⚜️BUILD and COMFORT
The P50 is 1DD + 2DD + 2MP hybrid earphone with 3D printed resin shells and CNC machined metal faceplate. Comfort on the P50 is something I adore because the fins fit my tragus quite well. However, the semi-custom resin design might be a problem for some people. Wearing them for longer hours did not bother me at all. Comfortable, secure and does its job well.
⚜️SETUP:
-Shanling M3X using UAPP, Hiby and stock player
⚜️SOUND PROFILE
The tonality of the p50 for my ears comes across as balanced with some slight added flavor in the bass and treble. Mids are exceptionally natural sounding and organic. Bass is not over exaggerated and has enough body to be a good foundation. Treble is not peaky and has enough elevation to reveal details in the mix.
Talking more about bass, I also do not think that this is bass light. Listening to “halik” by kamikazee, bass guitars have good texture in the intro making the song engaging enough. I didn't feel it was lacking in any way. People might want more midbass since the bass is tucked at around 200hz.
As for the mids, I tried this multiple time in practicing drums, and it revealed the correct timbre on toms, snares and other instruments in the mix. In the track spring thief my Yorushika, Suis didn't sound shill. It sounded like she is singing in the room with you. The plucks on the lead guitars sounded crisp and correctly sounded.
It is the microplanars that handle the treble and surprisingly, the implementation is not showing any peaks for my ears. I know this because some micro planars can make timbre on cymbals artificial sounding. Some sets that do this is the aful 5+2, dunu 142 and 242, and even the daybreak at times. The P50’s treble is balanced by the amount of bass energy. Cymbal strikes sound natural and I didn't have problems looking for cymbal accents when practicing covers.
Listening to Deep inside by incubus, the P50 shows its technical prowess and dynamism. For me, technicalities is not about details. For me, techs is how the IEM provides extra sauce like accurate timbral accuracy of instruments, great stereo imaging and 3d staging. Maybe its the nature of its open back design that it gives me a good sense of openness.
❤️PROS
-Great Balanced sound that is close to neutral
-great separation and imaging
-good vocal presence
💢CONS
-Bass could be more engaging
-Upper treble might be too forward at times

⚜️COMPARISONS
Daybreak
The daybeak is much cheaper and the tonality is very close. I also think the bass on the daybreak is more satisfying and can possibly pass as a basshead set. However, i feel like the gain at 3k is bit peakier on daybreak. I also feel like the p50 sounds more open sounding, and the daybreak sounds more “enclosed”. Get the daybreak if you care about your budget. Pick the p50 if you want some extra sauce and musical enjoyment.
Reference
The mids presentation is very close to the reference as well. The difference might be on the level of bass and treble. It's not to say that the p50 is v shaped set, for me it's just balanced with some added fun. Although i have to give the quality of bass to the reference. It is more textured and more impactful on the reference. But for me, the balance is leaning more on a midcentric approach than a truly neutral set. I might actually get better results in mixing with the p50 than the reference because I don't have to overcompensate on the bass. Pick the reference if you like mids and not so much treble and bass elevation. Get the p50 if you want a more balanced set.
Softears Studio 4
The balance on the studio 4 is better and the bass is more impactful. The P50 sounds more open sounding and has more treble sparkle. Vocals also sound a bit better on the studio 4. However, the P50 is twice as cheap as the studio 4. If you are on a tight budget, you can consider the P50. Get the Studio 4 if you are looking for a much more neutral sound signature.
🤔FINAL THOUGHTS
My first review of the p50 was a video review and was just a loaner set from Super reviews. After that, the sound of the p50 haunted me everyday. So I decided to get one. Although this was bought at a discounted price, I would still buy this at full price because I think the sound it produces can go toe to toe at some expensive sets. I find myself picking this up more to listen and would often delay my reviews of other sets because I choose my own personal enjoyment, and I think there is nothing wrong with that. This set just Allures
