The best dongle at $35?
Some people say sources doesn't change the sound signature, or has little to do with the sound of the transducer.
Well, not anymore. With releases of USB dongles equipped with DSP, you are able to apply traditional graphic EQ or PEQ to these dongles.
The Snowsky Melody, a dongle priced around $39. It features a dual CS43131, a very linear sounding DAC, tested and proven time and time again.
This dongle has a 10 bad PEQ, low and high gain modes, UAC 1 and 2, packed with EQ support from the app, and the list goes on
For science sake, I measured one my of IEMs, the truthear pure, because I already have a PEQ profile to enjoy them.
and Voila! The PEQ works! It was able to target the same frequency I made on squig.
I also included the measurements with the other EQ presets and the PEQ i did in the bass
Anyhow, does it answer the ancient question that, does source changed the signature of the IEM?
Definitely!
As for the stock sound of the melody. I would describe it as very engaging and natural. Everything is well balanced and I don't hear any boosted frequency. I even thought it sounded better than my Shanling M3 Plus!
